RIP Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour (Reprise)

It appears that the latest Led Zeppelin reunion tour rumor, which began when the front-man for Whitesnake allegedly claimed Led Zeppelin was planning a world tour and that Whitesnake would be the opening band, has been laid to rest.

Although this isn't exactly surprising (would you pick Whitesnake to open for your world tour?), the part of me that wants to see Led Zeppelin play was willing to go along.

In the long run, though, I think that some sort of reunion tour is inevitable. John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page are on board, how long can Robert Plant continue to say no to 100 million pounds?

Led Zeppelin World Tour Rumors

According to this article in the Mirror, "Led Zeppelin are set to reform for a world tour after their triumphant one-off reunion concert...Singer Robert Plant, 59, was originally opposed to the idea but has been talked round by bandmates Jimmy Page, 64, and John Paul Jones, 62."

Although Plant killed any reunion tour rumors months ago, I guess they will never really go away. While I hope that I get a chance to actually see Led fucking Zeppelin, I'm not buying it just yet. This article doesn't seem to have any source for the information other than Whitesnake's frontman David Coverdale, who claims he will be the opening act, and that he expects a call any day from Led Zeppelin to confirm dates. This strikes me as a little bit sketchy. Not only is this guy the 3rd or 4th person to claim that they will be the opening act for the most anticipated tour in history, but considering that Led Zeppelin could get anyone in the world to open up for them, why would they choose Whitesnake?

RIP Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour

According to this Sunday Mirror Exclusive:

"Robert Plant has turned down an extra £100million fortune to take Led Zeppelin on a world tour. The rock legend wants to concentrate on his new partnership with US country singer Alison Krauss...spelling the likely end of the famous band...Guitarist Jimmy Page, 64, was keen to do the tour this year and was backed by bass player John Paul, 62."

I can't say that I'm surprised by this. That doesn't mean I'm not disappointed though...

Ann Coulter a Deadhead?!?

This is just hilarious! The notoriously evil Ann Coulter claims to have been a Deadhead in this 2006 Jambands.com interview. Sounds kind of legit, though some of her answers are a little too vague to me...

Otherwise...

-Hidden Track interviewed Page McConnell about all sorts of stuff...

-Mike Gordon's got to show off his new bass last week with Gov't Mule

-how do you get 60 million people to fight over 20 million tickets? Hold a Led Zeppelin reunion show of course...

-Austin City Limits was last weekend; other than a freak fire see how these folks liked it: [Hidden Track] [Billboard]

And I'm glad someone got the outro to "JaJunk" from the Taft the other night! Although the sound quality of the clip isn't amazing you can see why I am still raving about it

Catching Up: Umphrey's Live Murat and More

Umphrey's Mcgee will release a double-live album, "Live at the Murat" on October 16. The album was recorded last April in Indianapolis. As I've previously indicated; these shows fucking rocked...

-as rumored, squashed, and un-squashed, Led Zeppelin will reunite for a tribute concert for the late Ahmet Ertegun November 26 in London; if all goes well a 2008 world reunion tour seems likely

-just when you thought it wasn't possible, the Echo Project got even awesomer with MMW, RAQ, and Bassnectar joining the bill among others

-Neil Young's going on tour this Fall (speaking of, check out this Farm Aid review)

...and I will keep trying to post while buried under the weight of the law...unless I move to Russia instead

WeTube Wednesdays: 10klf & Everyone Orchestra Edition

For this week's WeTube Wednesday I really wanted to put together a bunch of 10,000 Lakes clips, but there just aren't a ton to choose from...

My personal favorite was this Umphrey's McGee "Plunger" clip

"40's Theme" also scores a close second

Part of Derek Trucks' "Key to the Highway"

I also stumbled across some quality clips of the Everyone Orchestra covering "You Enjoy Myself"

Part 1 (Part 2) (Part 3)

And what's going on...

-STS9 released a slew of Fall tour dates

-Jimmy Page will testify against an accused bootlegger in Scotland

-buy some cool Phish, String Cheese, and other memorabilia and support the Mimi Fishman Foundation

-who needs an old pair of Chuck Taylors when you can have Joey Ramones

-the dancing glowstick girl made it to see String Cheese at 10,000 Lakes

-and holy shit, I'm still not sure if this is real, but it is definitely hilarious, and only a minute: the trailer for Harvest Fest 2007 (the festival actually has a killer lineup if you're interested in the Trans-Cosmic Tribadelic Space Carnival thing and happen to be in Minnesota during early September)

40+ Lb. Mushroom Found

Yesterday a 41 lb. mushroom was found in a forest in Chiapas, Mexico. In completely unrelated news, the Allman Brothers Band have canceled the rest of their Summer dates and replaced them with a massive tour of Southern Mexico...more updates to come as this story develops...

In real news...

RIP Led Zeppelin Reunion?

So after their was basically a consensus in the mainstream media that the remaining members of Led Zeppelin were set to do a reunion show and possibly even a subsequent reunion tour, Robert Plant went and squashed it all.

Unfortunately, according to Blabbermouth, "Speaking at a press conference for the upcoming Rockwave festival — which is scheduled to be held June 29, June 1 and June 3 in Athens, Greece — Plant insisted that he hadn't heard anything about the rumored ZEPPELIN reunion and jokingly added, "If there was one, then there wouldn't be enough doctors to support it!"

Well thanks a lot...

Led Zeppelin Reunion Rumors Pan Out

As previously mentioned, the three remaining members of Led Zeppelin are considering a reunion tour with Jason Bonham on drums.

According to PR Inside "a source says, "Page, Plant and Jones spoke and agreed to do the memorial concert [for the late Ahmet Ertegun]. They are waiting for a definite date.
"And no-one can quite believe it, but during discussions about the concert they all gave the green light to a tour if it all does well and they don't all fall out.
"It has been hoped-for and denied for years. But this is the closest they have ever come to a reunion tour. The feeling is that this is going to happen next year.""

And for those of you who simply have not gotten enough Led out this afternoon...

Catching Up

Unfortunately I was not able to blog from the middle of this year's Summer Camp Monsoon. Here's what I missed...

10,000 Lakes: Trey's out, Cheese's in

Speaking of Cheese, they've added more NYC and Red Rocks dates

Led Zeppelin Reunion?

moe. joins Lollapalooza

the Bonnaroo schedule was released; let the bitching begin...

How was Summer Camp you ask? Here are the highlights; I'll be posting more later...

-An entire year's worth of rain descended upon central Illinois in one day; it was not, however, nearly as effective at driving away hippies as...say...death metal
-Tea Leaf Green played a pretty good show (with Bayliss sitting in for a song or two)
-ALO blew my mind
-The Wailers just blew
-Keller and the WMDS were underwhelming, though I never realized how good Gibb Droll is
-Cornmeal was fun
-Brother's Past; what a great find!
-Umphrey's was great night one, sub-par night two
-moe. met and exceeded all expectations; not only was the music great; but the sets were well-chosen and probably had the best light show that I have ever seen

As I said, more later!
