'roo Artist Additions and Late Night

Bonnaroo had a pretty good round of artist additions today: The Disco Biscuits, Zappa Plays Zappa, Cat Power, MSTRKRFT, and Chromeo. Had these recent additions been in the initial announcement I may have considered attending at the time.
Bonnaroo has also announced that My Morning Jacket and Phil Lesh will play late-night sets at the main stage, which will be in addition to their traditional late-night tent sows.
Don't get me wrong; I'm still not going...
See you at Rothbury (which sold out their early bird tickets in about a half hour this morning.)

Festival Additions
Two artist addition announcements of interest:
Rothbury just added Rodrigo y Gabriela to their already stellar lineup. Anyone who has not had the chance to catch this act is really missing out. The best way to describe their phenomenon is that it resembles two people beating the ever-living-crap out of their acoustic guitars yet somehow making beautiful music. I was really happy to have caught part of their show at Bonnaroo 07. I was really bummed when they canceled their appearance at the Echo Project in Atlanta back in November. Despite the hefty price tag for early bird tickets (over $200 on sale 2/27) this festival may be well worth it.
Summer Camp just added the Roots, Lotus, U-Melt, O.A.R., Future Rock, and others. The Roots are obviously a solid addition. Personally I could not be happier about the addition of Lotus to one of my favorite festivals. Lotus came through Lexington and played at The Dame a few weeks back on 2/7/08 and blew me away. Check out the audience recording here (particulary the "one last hurrah"). I mean, really, how could anyone not love a band that plays the theme from Zelda regularly?

Beware: Festival Lineups Falling From Sky
In addition to today's All Good and 10,000 Lakes announcements, the Coachella folks released the inaugural All Points West Festival lineup:
Radiohead (2 nights), Jack Johnson, Underworld, Kings of Leon, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Cat Power, The Roots, The New Pornographers, Youssou N'Dour, Animal Collective, Andrew Bird, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Metric, CSS, Girl Talk, Chromeo, The Go! Team, Amadou & Mariam, The Black Angels, Sia, The Felice Brothers, K'Naan, Jason Isbell, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Alberta Cross, The Virgins, Black Kids, Mates of State, Duffy, Forro in the Dark, Nicole Atkins, Juana Molina, Little Brother, Rogue Wave, Neil Halstead and Your Vegas.
This is about what I expected from the hipsters who bring you Coachella. I would love to see Radiohead for two nights. Rodrigo y Gabriela are also strong. Once you get past the Roots, the Felice Brothers, and Grace Potter, however, the lineup starts to get a little shaky for my tastes...
All Points West will take place August 8-10 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Tickets go on sale February 29.

Ha Ha Ha: Hillary Clinton: The Comeback of the Guitar Solo
We all know of this blog's affection for good old Hilldawg. In continuing our support, I would like to ask our undecided readers to take a moment to watch this video...

All Good and 10klf lineups: meh
Maybe I've just seen this exact same lineup too many times. Let's just say I could be more excited the initial lineups for the All Good and 10,000 Lakes Festivals.
From All Good's website:
Phil Lesh & Friends, Widespread Panic, Gov't Mule, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Keller Williams and the WMD'S, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Railroad Earth, Tea Leaf Green, The Bridge, Hot Buttered Rum, RAQ, Bonerama, Pnuma Trio, The Wood Brothers, Bassnectar...
From 10,000 Lakes' website:
Phil Lesh & Friends, The Flaming Lips, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Mickey Hart Band feat. Steve Kimock & George Porter Jr., Slightly Stoopid, Dark Star Orchestra, Panjea with Michael Kang, JJ Grey & MOFRO, New Mastersounds, Everyone Orchestra, Cornmeal, WBPN, The Hue, and over 40 more acts to be announce...
It's nice to see Phil in a bunch of headlining spots. It just seems like the festival scene's a little saturated this year. Literally you could do a major festival every weekend from SXSW in May until Coachella East in August. Anyway, it just seems like the festival tour is replacing the band tour and I'm not so sure where I stand on that. On one hand it's nice to be able to catch 10 acts in one day and not have to worry about driving anywhere that night. On the other hand, festivals are expensive (and only getting pricier) and can be a major hassle between lines to get in, lines to use the bathroom, and anything else that associated with 50,000 people congregating in a really big field somewhere.
I just hope that this trend doesn't spawn off a new trend of major acts abandoning traditional nationwide Summer tours in favor of the festival circuit. I love festivals, but most of the time I just want to see one or two acts in a night for $20 and not deal with the rest of the hassle. I don't think I'm alone...
[EDITOR'S NOTE: I guess I'm being a little bit harsh on All Good. Solid Lineup. I would go. 10klf is still a major disappointment though. I can't stand the Flaming Lips. Why would anyone want to sit through their geeked out lead singer rambling incoherently with a camera pointed up his nose? He just talks. They don't even play music half the time! I mean they have kind of cool special effects but come on people we can demand better! I would rather see Lotus as the headliner than the Flaming Lips. At least they can make music. That wasn't sarcastic either. Lotus is awesome.]

Flash Light: Camp adds P-Funk, TLG

Summercamp just announced the addition of George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, G Love & Special Sauce, Tea Leaf Green, Clutch, Blind Melon, and others (in addition to STS9's addition earlier this week.)
This festival is just getting better! I've never had the opportunity to catch George Clinton but I have been a fan of the Afro-nauts longer than the rest of the lineup. I'm also glad to see Tea Leaf Green's addition - they played a great Thursday night pre-party set last year and just have so much potential; it's always great to catch them play.
