One step Furthur for the Deadheads in NYC...

Happy (almost)Birthday, Jerry!

As Jerry's would be 68th Birthday approaches, there's tons of music around NYC to celebrate all that Grateful Dead started. You could be checking out Furthur tonight or tomorrow night in Times Square, and/or heading to the post show at Sullivan Hall with Alphabet Soup (a band featuring members of Ratdog & Brazilian Girls. Also from Frisco, now residing in BK and offering a delicious helping of original hip hop / jazz tunes.)

If you're heading up to Gathering Of The Vibes, you're also helping to celebrate. Vibes has sprung from traditions born in the Grateful Dead community. It actually began as a memorial party for Garcia named "Deadhead Heaven - A Gathering of the Tribe." The event provided a forum for music lovers to celebrate the life of Garcia and to reunite for a weekend of spiritual renewal.

Sullivan Hall is celebrating hard this week too, starting tonight with Post-Furthur with Alphabet Soup, Sunday with a Garcia Birthday Bash, and next Wednesday with Jemimah Puddleduck /Honeytribe. (Fun Dead Trivia... The Grateful Dead's first show in NYC was just around the corner from Sullivan Hall, at 152 Bleeker Street!)

Mark Karan is best known for performing with the extended Grateful Dead family. For the last twelve years, he has anchored the lead guitar slot in Bob Weir & RatDog, playing hundreds of shows to thousands of fans year-round
