Roots Replace Flaming Lips at Hangout Festival

The Roots could have never filled in for the lips a few years ago, the hard touring act hit the festival circuit after their pop success started to wane and they found a home with the "real music lovers" of the live music community. Since then The Roots have become the house band for Jimmy Fallon and their success has been at it's highest since the mid 90's. Because of the Fallon gig their touring schedule is a fraction of what it used to be, so this is one of the few chances those outside NYC will be able to catch them. Steven Drozd had a very public battle with heroin (which he won) which was portrayed in a graphic and emotional scene in the 2005 Flaming Lips documentary The Fearless Freaks. Drodz was hospitalized for "unknown reasons".
