moe.larkey

Imagine my surprise yesterday upon learning that moe. will be coming to Louisville this Friday, May 18 for the WFPK/LEO Listener Appreciation shows at the Brown Theater. "Not REO Speedwagon. Not Journey! Not the Bay City Rollers! KISS!" (well moe. actually but I couldn't resist the Detroit Rock City reference).

Anyways, judging from the amount of moe. posts on this blog one could reasonably assume that I'm excited about this. Not quite. Why? Because moe. is only scheduled to play for 45 minutes at the end of the night. 45 minutes?!?! This is clearly not enough time. I need two sets, not two songs. This is actually moe.'s second 45 minute appearance in the Bluegrass this year; meaning that if moe. plays a third 45 minute show at some point, Kentucky moe. fans will have finally been treated to (about the equivalent of) one whole moe. show.

The rest of my frustration surrounding this has more to do with Kentucky's lack of a functional music scene than anything else. I'm not claiming to be the authoritative source with respect to the music scene in Kentucky, but I do spend a whole lot more time searching for live music in Kentucky than your average Wildcat. If I didn't know moe. was playing this Friday in Kentucky, who the fuck did? And why wasn't there more press surrounding this? I saw at least 5,000 ads for Bob Seger's return to the Bluegrass; am I asking too much to expect at least one moe. flyer taped to a telephone pole?

Anyways, I don't think I'm alone on several of these rants...

i'm a huge keller fan and also just found out about this show a few weeks ago. if i hadn't of been searching for a review of his cincy show, i would have never known. it wasn't listed on his tour page at all! at least last year when yonder played it was on their tour dates page. although all the sets will be short, it should be a good show.
