Jerry Garcia Bob Wier National Anthem (ufo in background)

A stirring rendition of the National Anthem by Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Vince Welnick at Candlestick Park on April 12, 1993. Even in the later years, they could still belt it out. ALSO: A never-before-noticed UFO flyby occurs at 2:11 in this video. Note the object's unusual green hue. (Perhaps certain aliens just wouldn't miss this rendition for the world--literally...!)

national and bob wier, the bridge sessions

the bluegrass craze in brooklyn hits a new low! with the national sitting in with bob weir, with banjos and accordion.

Jaimo's Jasssz Band and The Jamie McLean: Gramercy

Jaimo's Jasssz Band and The Jamie McLean band brought a good crowd to the Gramercy Ballroom starting the show around 7:30pm and going past 11pm. Just a few weeks earlier The Jamie McLean Band recorded a live CD and DVD at the Gibson Guitar Studios in NYC with Taylor Hicks (American Idol) and Jason Crosby (Robert Randolph) sitting in on two tracks. Back again in NYC McClean started out the night with little more than an introduction, inviting the crowd to come to the front of the room and “make it a party” he commented on the familiar faces in the audience and got strait to the music. The band features Jamie McLean on Guitar and vocals, Ben Mars on bass and Brian Griffin on drums. Jason Crosby sat in for the entirety of the set on keyboards and violin. Mars and McClean were high energy and all smiles while drummer Brian Griffin stayed Intently focused on the other two members, locking in a tight power trio.

The set mainly featured songs off the band's most recent album Sunday Morning (featuring John Popper from Blues Traveler and Nigel Hall of Lettuce). Starting off with the bluesy tune “Holy Water” that included a dissonant guitar solo which had McClean trading licks back and forth with Mars. The song set a tone for the night of classic 1-4-5 blues progressions with humble and at times self effacing lyrics. A highlight of the night was Reggie Pittman, Jaimo's trumpet player sitting in on a cover of Otis Redding's Mr Pitiful. Jamie McClean left The Dirty Dozen Brass Band to pursue his own sound and he certainly proved it at the Gramercy

Jaimoe is celebrating the release of his new CD "Renaissance Man," he was introduced onstage as “the original Allman Brother,” with these sort of connections he has put together a stellar group of musicians featuring Jaimoe on drums, blues hall of famer Junior Mack on vocals/guitar and Dave Stoltz (of PBR) on bass. “Rainy Night in Georgia,” featured Junior Mack's deep baritone voice, “Leaving Trunk” showcased the bands blues chops, Junior Mack broke out his best slide work playing signature Duane Allman licks on his cherry red Gibson SG.

For “Dilemma” the band stepped aside to give Jaimo the spotlight for a 5 minute drum solo. The band then stepped back onstage with the rumbling of the bass leading back into the song. The band closed the set with The Allman Brothers’ “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More,” with a “Jessica” tease toward the end. They closed the set with Albert Collins’ “Black Cat Bone.”

NYC: vote tomorrow to get money out of politics!

So tomorrow your New York City Council will vote on whether or not to support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that declares corporations are not people and money is not speech.

Because of your past support, I know you agree with me that we have to get money out of politics. I'm hoping you will join me in asking your city council member to support this resolution.

You can identify your member and find contact information here. Please contact them today and ask them to support Resolution 1172. This is important.

Three weeks ago the Los Angeles City Council passed a similar measure. That vote was a huge bang heard across the country. Now, if the largest city in America passes almost the exact same resolution, it will be a crucial step forward in the fight against money in politics.

It will give a turbo boost to the cause if the two biggest cities in America representing more than 12 million people stand in support of getting money out in less than a month.

Let's take the fight to Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, Little Rock, Des Moines and many other cities and towns across this country. Each victory leads to the ultimate victory in Washington, D.C.

But first we have to win tomorrow. Please contact your member and tell them to support Resolution 1172.

Union Street Preservation Society at Freddies

USPS plays a monthly set at the newly reopened Freddies in south Park Slope, the new and better behaved Williamsburg. I suggest you Google the word "Freddies" if you don't know about this legendary bar! go on now.

We also played the Manderley Bar at Sleep No More, this is a picture of my bass player wearing one of those funny masks in the dressing room/ room

Moksha Family Reunion, CMJ, Art Basel

Art Basel Miami: There was a cool LED floor, that responded when you walked on it.

CMJ 2011: USPS played the Deli Showcase!

Moksha Family Reunion: an interesting concert in Miami. The artsy district is Winwood, a bunch of artist studios/warehouses, looking similar to Williamsburg but louder, and you can drink on the street. Steve Kimmock, Roosevelt Collier from the Lee Boys and a bunch of other musical and visual artists were there. Alex Grey did not show up. Reminded me of many other Florida festivals but was in the heart of Miami. Miami is like a circus but with much more money.

Zack Deputy at Rockwood Music Hall

I am a big fan of Rockwood Music Hall, many bands featured in The Deli play there, and it is constantly home to some of the best bluegrass in NYC Zach Deputy has chosen NYC as the home to his CD release, with all the success acoustic music is having with hipsters here he wants in on the action, and he has the chops to make it happen. He has conquered the south but is yet to make big waves up here in the Northeast, This may change with his upcoming release Another Day (Eusonia Records, 2011), Zach Deputy demonstrates his extraordinary ability to perform and record in multiple contexts and conveys the sensibilities of a mature singer/songwriter. Another Day offers another look at Zach Deputy and seeks to help him cross over into other audiences. The record will appeal to fans of contemporary artists like Jack Johnson and Amos Lee, but the origins of the style and feel remain classic.

get on the grid to get off hippies...

http://youtu.be/w211KOQ5BMI

Anonymous has apparently set its sights on Wall Street after leading multiple protests against BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) in San Francisco.

Although many commuters who depend on the train system say they could do without station shutdowns and delays, the digital collective shows little sign of halting their hacktivist expansion into the physical realm.

"On September 17th, Anonymous will flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months," a purported Anonymous member claimed on YouTube.

"Once there, we shall incessantly repeat one simple demand in a plurality of voices. We want freedom. The abuse and corruption of corporations, banks and governments ENDS HERE!!"

However, the activist emphasized that the protest would be a "non-violent one," as Anonymous does "not encourage violence" in any way.

Obviously, Wall Street traders are unlikely to react positively to Anonymous setting up shop outside the Exchange, but what about the rest of NYC?

Well, as San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr told the Chron, Anonymous is fast losing public support in the Bay Area after multiple protests disrupted BART service, delaying trains and forcing the temporary closure of several stations.

"I don't want this to be construed as delivering a threat, but enough is enough,” said Suhr.

"They made their point, and they are now losing in the court of public opinion. We don't feel that we took appropriate action at the appropriate pace (on Monday). The next response will be quicker."

It goes without saying that NYC law enforcement officials are likely to adopt a zero tolerance policy to Anonymous protests in the financial district - especially in a post-September 11th world.

And the average New Yorker? Well, the jury is still out on that one - but as long as Anonymous doesn’t barricade the subway, the general public will probably be somewhat sympathetic, at least initially to the Anonymous version of Sleep Now in the Fire.
