Phish Tour Wrap Up

Scott's on fire this week! read the Phish wrap up, I really like how he covered the cultural impacts of the tour including the negative media coverage and misunderstandings imposed by small town newspapers and lame indie rock blogs.

To tell you the truth I'm kind of relieved, this is all over for now. I'm ready for some funk, soul and Allman Brothers! Tonight at PNC! All this spaced out noodling and I'm ready for some fiery slide!

Pennywise frontman leaves band

Punk is the hippy anti-thesis yet, it stands for all the same values, authenticity, community and independence from corporate controlled media. Pennywise is one of the great 90's punk bands. The music community will miss frontman Jim Lindberg.

Bear Creek Music Festival Visual Arts Program

Hoping to make it down to Florida for this, but we will have pictures one way or another. It really is a different world in St. Pete and the Florida east coast. Definitely one of the art capitals of the world. Zen Glass Studios is where I learned to blow glass there are always interesting things going on. They hit up all the southern music festivals.Check them out if you are ever at a big southern festival. Spirit of Suwanee is one of the best campgrounds for a festival, just don't disrespect the locals (first rule of any trip right?).

Spirit of Suwannee Music Park is a complete ecosystem like no other and truly one of the most beautiful and comfortable/luxurious campgrounds around. Bear Creek is the only festival thatnow keeping funk and soul at the forefront; for this I am Grateful.

The Bear Creek Arts Program is really amazing and if your an artist you should consider submitting your work. One day I will start making some more art.

The Bear Creek Music Festival will feature many regional painters, photographers and visual artists. Many of these artists will paint during musical performances, capturing their interpretations of the musical experience. More information regarding the Art Program will be announced soon. If you want to do some live artwork or painting during musical performances, contact info@bearcreekmusicfestival.com. Don't forget to support these guys either! buy something!

ROCK THE EARTH AND THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND PARTNER TO RECYCLE MOBILE PHONES ACROSS BANDS' 4OTH ANNIVERSARY NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Environmental advocacy organization Rock the Earth, announced today that they have partnered with the Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic in calling on all attendees of the bands co-headlining North American Tour, to bring their old, unwanted mobile phones (and chargers, adapters, etc) to the Rock the Earth booth at the Allman Brothers Band / Widespread Panic upcoming August - September US tour stops.

In partnership with Musictoday, Collective Good and Gibson, all attendees who
bring a phone to the Rock the Earth booth for redemption will receive a 20% off
a future Musictoday purchase, and be entered into a nightly drawing for an
Instant Live CD of the band's performance; and the tour prize of a Gibson guitar;
Plus gain entry into the national mobile phone recycling campaign Grand Prize of
the "Party Like A Rock Star" experience - Winner plus 12 friends wins use of
the Gibson Tour Bus for a one night concert excursion.

Allman Brothers Band guitarist Derek Trucks commented "We're very happy to
align with Rock the Earth in this effort to keep mobile phones out of landfill, and
just like everyone else, we too have been looking for the right place to recycle our
old phones. In fact, I plan on bringing my five old phones to the Rock the Earth
booth and I encourage everyone else to do the same".

Did you know that one (1) mobile phone has enough super toxic heavy metals to contaminate 40,000 gallons of drinking water? Or, that one (1) billion new mobile phones were issued last year in the US alone, yet less than 1% ever get recycled?

For those people looking to recycle an old phone but who are unable to attend any
of these shows, they can still do so by simply going to: Rock the Earth Phone
Recycling Center to utilize the online entry form and free shipping. All participants
will receive the 20% off Musictoday discount and gain entry into the Grand Prize sweepstakes drawing,

So, what are you waiting for? The more phones recycled - the less toxic chemicals threatening America's most precious natural resource - our drinking water supply!!
And, the greater your chances of winning!

U-Melt/Jim Loughlin at Sulivan Hall

Here is a picture of the set list. U-Melt (great band bad name) played a funky "Get Down On It"( Kool and The Gang) and they jammed with Jim Loughlin from .moe who they split the bill with.

This guy brought out a tank, and I was really skeptical until I found out it was just a guy trying to support his family and the whole organized thing was just a fantasy. It was going all night even while a complete brigade of mounted cops passed by. Trotting down the street.

Big up to Jim Cunningham who I saw at the show Honest Tune writer and fellow MHS alumni! Speaking of MHS alumni, just found out U-Melts manager also went to my high school and knows my sister pretty well.

Hey Lady & Black Dragon @ Southpaw

full post on the Hey Lady/Black Dragon Southpaw show.

Warlocks

I went to see the Warlocks this weekend on assignment from Jambase, this is the band that is pissing off all the hippies with their name, because this was the Dead's original name. Little do they know there was an equally amazing band called the Velvet Underground also going by the name of the Warlocks, in the early 60's. because of this the Dead changed THEIR name. either way it was an interesting cultural experience and nice to be able to stand and stare with my arms folded not being surrounded by ecstatic dancers.
