Ear Candy

After listening to the Disco Biscuits' 04/18/08 show a few times now I only really have one thing to say: I am continually amazed by how good this band is. Don't take my opinion; give it a listen for yourself.

Disco Biscuits Spring Selections, Ann Marie Calhouln Plays Ripple, etc.

I would highly advise anyone who has not heard any of the Disco Biscuits' Spring tour shows to do so IMMEDIATELY. I don't know what happened in the last year, but this band is on freaking fire right now. I got a taste of it at Langerado but I figured it was just an on night; how was I to know that they were on an epic upswing?

Anyways, here's a taste of what level this band is playing at right now. I especially enjoyed the futuristic Bill & Ted-esque riffs Barber plays about 8 or 9 minutes in. I've also added "Glastonbury" from the third Tractor Beam show as a bonus.

Ann Marie Calhoun, who you should remember from her unbelievable, jaw-dropping rendition of Phish's Stash on YouTube, released another tube: the Grateful Dead's "Ripple." I have no idea how she does it but somehow she is able to transform 1970's psychedelic rock into 1870's country-western. Simply amazing.

In other news...

In case you missed it, the Sonic Bloom Festival will feature Zilla, Lotus, Bassnectar, EOTO, and others. The festival will take place June 19-21 in Winter Park, Colorado.

RIP Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour (Reprise)

It appears that the latest Led Zeppelin reunion tour rumor, which began when the front-man for Whitesnake allegedly claimed Led Zeppelin was planning a world tour and that Whitesnake would be the opening band, has been laid to rest.

Although this isn't exactly surprising (would you pick Whitesnake to open for your world tour?), the part of me that wants to see Led Zeppelin play was willing to go along.

In the long run, though, I think that some sort of reunion tour is inevitable. John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page are on board, how long can Robert Plant continue to say no to 100 million pounds?

Another Festival(s): Up North & BamaJam

Today the Up North Music Festival, which will take place August 8-10 in Central Maine, was announced. The lineup includes Bob Weir & Ratdog, Umphrey's McGee, the Wailers, Soulive, Assembly of Dust, Lettuce, John Brown's Body, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, the Breakfast, Spiritual Rez, and the Indobox.

Also unmentioned on this site until now is the BamaJam Music & Arts Festival, which will take place June 5-7 in Enterprise, Alabama. Unlike most festivals this Summer, however, Mr. "How You Feelin" Michael Franti would probably get his ass kicked at this one. The lineup includes Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Hank Williams Jr., Ricky Scaggs, Gov't Mule, Del McCoury, Yonder Mountain String Band, Keller Williams, Old Crow Medicine Show, Railroad Earth, Emmit-Nershi Band, Marc Broussard, Social Networking and the Wood Brothers.
