Fishman and Others to Join Yonder at Red Rocks

The Yonder Mountain String Band announced on its website today that they "will continue to break new ground this Labor Day weekend at Red Rocks. Special guest drummer Jon Fishman of Phish will sit in with Yonder during their 2-set show, which is a dream-come-true for the band...
In addition to Fishman, the line up also includes Mexican guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela...
Singer-songwriter and Yonder favorite, Todd Snider, will kick off the evening with his satirical songwriting and music inspired by the likes of John Prine and Jerry Jeff Walker, providing the perfect start for a great evening."

I only wish I could make it to Red Rocks for this. I guess I can't be too bitter; I will be there two weeks prior for the final Incident.

Who Let the (Hill) Dogs Out?

Normally I am not a big fan of pretty much anything with Rolling Stone Magazine's name attached to it. In my opinion the comments are always more entertaining than the articles; and this Rock 'n' Roll daily article about Hillary Clinton proves to be no different.

The article is about the various songs that Hillary Clinton is considering for her Presidential Campaign theme song. As can be expected, most of the songs are bad; I mean, Smashmouth covering the Monkees and Shania Twain bad; you can check them out and vote for your favorite one here.

Anyways, the reader suggestions for Hillary's campaign song are hilarious. Some highlights include "Who Let the Dogs Out" (Baha Men), "Loser" (Beck), "Cold Hard Bitch" (Jet), "Electioneering" (Radiohead), and, of course, "Evil Woman" (ELO).

Our suggestions would include "When the Circus Comes to Town" (Los Lobos), "Hey Hey What Can I Do?" (Led Zeppelin), "Lola" (Kinks), and "Waitin' for the Man" (Velvet Underground).

UPDATE: So driving around Dallas we thought of a few more good ones...

If Hillary gets the nomination her theme song really should be "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (U2); but "Dude Looks Like a Lady" (Aerosmith), "Killer Queen" (Queen), and "Eve of Destruction" (Buffalo Springfield) would all fit quite nicely.

Bisco Kids Beware

Check out this message from the Disco Biscuit's website. I can't imagine what kind of hell Bisco fans must have raised to warrant this one...

"This message was sent to us by Higher Ground and we wanted to pass it along to you:
Hello.
Thanks for buying a ticket to see the Disco Biscuits at Higher Ground this Thursday and/or Friday.
We're looking forward to the band's return and just wanted to mention a few things to make sure everyone has a good time.
Please respect our parking lots and don't loiter or litter. If you're staying in an area hotel, please respect other guests and don't be loud or disorderly. As always, don't drink and drive.
Please note, it is college graduation this weekend and local law enforcement have announced that there will be DUI checkpoints in the area. We expect the police will be particularly active these two nights so please make smart decisions and obey the law.
Thanks!"

Summer Camp Tag Team

Jambands.com reports "the members of Umphrey’s McGee and moe. will...collaborate at this year’s Summer Camp. Billed Summer Camp Tag Team, the late night event will feature members of both bands subbing in-and-out for one other well into the early-morning."

As if there weren't enough reasons to head to Illinois already...

For you moe.rons out there here's a decent interview with moe. guitarists Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey. The questions are kind of generic and repetitive, but if you're bored...

WeTube Wednesdays

So this week I've got two clips that I think are sweet. The first is moe. wrapping up their 5-night run at the Highline Ballroom with "Plane Crash". The quality isn't amazing but damn you can feel the energy...

I also stumbled across Phish's Halloween show in Atlanta where they cover the Talking Heads. Here's the beginning of that set with "Born Under Punches".

Summer Camp 2007 Schedule

I don't know when the Summer Camp 2007 schedule was released but I just stumbled upon it and was inspired to immediately buy my tickets. Check out the schedule or print one out for yourself.

moe.larkey

Imagine my surprise yesterday upon learning that moe. will be coming to Louisville this Friday, May 18 for the WFPK/LEO Listener Appreciation shows at the Brown Theater. "Not REO Speedwagon. Not Journey! Not the Bay City Rollers! KISS!" (well moe. actually but I couldn't resist the Detroit Rock City reference).

Anyways, judging from the amount of moe. posts on this blog one could reasonably assume that I'm excited about this. Not quite. Why? Because moe. is only scheduled to play for 45 minutes at the end of the night. 45 minutes?!?! This is clearly not enough time. I need two sets, not two songs. This is actually moe.'s second 45 minute appearance in the Bluegrass this year; meaning that if moe. plays a third 45 minute show at some point, Kentucky moe. fans will have finally been treated to (about the equivalent of) one whole moe. show.

The rest of my frustration surrounding this has more to do with Kentucky's lack of a functional music scene than anything else. I'm not claiming to be the authoritative source with respect to the music scene in Kentucky, but I do spend a whole lot more time searching for live music in Kentucky than your average Wildcat. If I didn't know moe. was playing this Friday in Kentucky, who the fuck did? And why wasn't there more press surrounding this? I saw at least 5,000 ads for Bob Seger's return to the Bluegrass; am I asking too much to expect at least one moe. flyer taped to a telephone pole?

Anyways, I don't think I'm alone on several of these rants...
