jammin' aMsterDaM Again

*Image copyright Live Music Blog

This year's Jam in the Dam will go down March 16-18 at the Melkweg in Amsterdam. After an awesome 2004 lineup, 2005 left much to be desired. Fortunately, this year there will be five groups performing rather than in previous years where there were only four performers.

Already confirmed to perform Jam in the Dam 2008 are Umphrey's Mcgee, Tea Leaf Green, and Lotus, in addition to two other groups who will be chosen by the fans here.

Clearly of all the shows going on outside of the U.S. this is the one that I would want to be at the most. Whether or not I actually get to go is another story...

Bassnectar Interview

Bassnectar is one of the few performers that falls way outside of the jam / indy / whatever that music is genre that I really dig. Here's a sweet JamBase interview with San Francisco's number one D.J.

WeTube Wednesdays

So after starting the WeTube Wednesdays feature I completely forgot about it. Now I am pleased to announce that WeTube Wednesdays has returned!

This week's clip is an amateur highlights clip of the the String Cheese Incident's Sea of Dreams Festival 12/31/06.

I was fortunate enough to attend Melt-Your-Face 2007 and this clip brings back a lot of fuzzy memories...can't wait for the Bonnaroo Incident.

Matisyahu Joins 311

I know I'm a little late on this announcement, but honestly, I just don't know how to react to this one. I really liked 311 when I was in middle school and that song "Down" dominated the airwaves. Then someone told me that "311" stood for "KKK" and I think I believed them. Other than a few random encounters with 311 since then, however, I have pretty much ignored the group for the last decade. That is, until they announced that Matisyahu would be joining them for their Summer Unity Tour 2007.

I went through a heavy Matisyahu phase for a few months last summer after someone turned me on to "Live at Stubbs". I caught Matisyahu at Bonnaroo and it was definitely one of my top five favorite 'roo performances.

Why do I call my time spent blaring reggae versions of stories from the Old Testament a phase (when I freely admit that the time spent listening to the 7/16/94 Harry Hood is an addiction)? Because one day it suddenly hit me: Matisyahu's music simply does not have very much potential for development. I think the guy's a great artist and really like the positive-ness of his music, I am just unsure what's next for the artist.

Unfortunately for yours truly, though, the Summer Unity Tour will be in the Midwest when I'm on the West Coast and then will make it to California when I get back to Kentucky.

STS9 @ Headliner's 4/26/07

I've known about Sound Tribe Sector 9 for a while (hell, everyone knows about them). However, beyond a few archive shows and assorted podcasts, I have been largely unfamiliar with the group. That is until 4/26/07 at Headliner's in Louisville. The show was not only my first Sound Tribe experience, it was also Sound Tribe's first Kentucky experience.

Two DJ's took the stage about 9:30 to a crowd that couldn't have been more than 300 people and spun for an hour before more people showed up and Sound Tribe came on around 10:30. My ability to write a more detailed review of the show is kind of hampered by the fact that I'm not very familiar with specific titles of songs (combined with the fact that their songs have no words which makes it even harder to write a detailed review).

Who needs a lengthy review anyway when you've got cell phone camera pics! The bottom line? Get out and see this band. They're all really talented musicians and bring a fantastic light show with them. In terms of other shows in the region to compare this one to: more fun than Umphrey's 11/15/06 @ Bogart's, not as fun as Umphrey's 11/16/06 @ Headliner's; better than moe. 2/3/07 @ Taft, not as good as moe. 3/1/07 @ the Tabernacle.
