Great Umphrey's Review: 4/21/07

The Live Music Blog has posted a great review of Umphrey's 4/21/07 show @ the Vic. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend, and to be honest, LMB's sweet pics and great clip make me...well...more upset that I wasn't able to make it. Not to fluff the LMB more than usual; but you should really check it out.

Snoop Barred from the Land Down Under

Y'all (all 10 of you) might be wondering why Snoop Dogg keeps popping up on a primarily hippie jam band blog, but seriously, who doesn't love this guy?

According to Billboard, life's just not getting any easier for Snoop, who "has been refused entry into Australia because of his extensive criminal record, the immigration minister said...
Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said Snoop Dogg's visa was canceled because he had failed to pass the country's strict character test, which takes criminal convictions into account. "He doesn't seem the sort of bloke we want in this country," Andrews told Sydney's Macquarie Radio... In March, Snoop Dogg and fellow rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs were forced to scrap a tour of Britain after authorities denied Snoop Dogg a visa."

How Will You Celebrate?

The Ithaca Journal reports that in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Grateful Dead's 5/8/77 show at Cornell, the Mayor of Ithaca will declare May 8 Grateful Dead Day in Ithaca. In addition, "the headlining event of this anniversary celebration is Dark Star Orchestra's recreation of the Legendary May 8, 1977 Grateful Dead concert."

The real question is how long will it be before a Vermont mayor takes the cue and declares mid-august Phish week?

Phish Ringtones

According to Phish's website "For the first time ever, Phish real music ring tones and ringback tones are available to millions of the loyal followers the band has attained throughout over 20 years of touring...Beginning today, the band's mobile content will be available exclusively through Verizon Wireless...The first batch of ring tones and ringbacks come from the extensive online Live Phish catalog at LivePhish.com, culled from classics such as 12/29/97, 11/14/95, 12/01/95, Colorado '88, and The White Tape."

So I was initially excited about this, then skeptical, then ambivalent...and now I couldn't be more excited every time I hear "run run run run run run run run run run run run run run" coming out of my phone.

Finally, one reason that being a Verizon customer doesn't suck...albeit briefly. All of you lucky bastards that are Cingular customers can download these to your new IPhones (or other non-crappy Verizon phones) at RingToneJukebox.com on May 18.

If you happen to be a Verizon representative and also happen to be reading this...thanks for the sweet ringtones...now go fuck yourself.

Camp Bisco VI Updates

I previously posted that Camp Bisco VI will take place this year from August 17-18 in Romulous, NY. Apparently I spoke too soon...

According to the Live Music Blog "Apparently, during that [4/22/07] show, they [the Disco Biscuits] announced that their annual Camp Bisco festival will indeed take place this August 16-18th in Mariaville, NY."

More Good @ All Good

The Benevento / Russo Duo, Drive-By Truckers, Sam Bush, the Bridge, Lee Boys, and the Ryan Montbleau Band have all been added to this year's All Good Music Festival in Masontown, West Virginia from July 13-15.

These artists will join Bob Weir, moe. Leftover Salmon, Keller, Michael Franti, Les Claypool, STS9, and Tea Leaf Green among others for what is shaping up to be a spectacular festival.

They really aren't trying to make it easy on me this summer. Not only have recent String Cheese announcements put my 10,000 Lakes plans in jeopardy, but now I may have to consider skipping out on a three-week job after two and half weeks as well...

Ween "Climbs That Hill"

Ween has announced a hiatus from the recording their latest album in order to hit the road from April through June.

Click here for full tour dates.

More Phil Updates

In addition to the recent news that Phil Lesh has been added to close out this year's Mountain Jam, Glide Magazine has added that his will be Phil's only summer festival performance.

This year's Mountain Jam ensemble of Phil's friends will include Warren Haynes, John Molo, John Scofield, and Steve Molitz.

Phil & Friends @ Mountain Jam

In what Phil Lesh's website calls the artist's only northeast festival appearance this year, Phil & Friends will close off this year's Mountain Jam, taking place from June 1-3 in Hunter Mountain, NY.

Phil & Friends adds to the current lineup that includes Gov't Mule, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Rober Randolph,

Phil's friends are not official yet, though one can't help but suspect that at minimum, Warren Haynes will be included. Given that the festival is also in New York, I don't see why Trey couldn't be another of Phil's friends. We'll see...

D.U.M.B. Holidaze

The D.U.M.B. party keeps on expanding...

After a series of announcements in recent weeks, the Disco Biscuits and Umphrey's Mcgee have announced their next co-headlining festival: Caribbean Holidaze Jamaica. The only available information thus far is that the event will take place in Jamaica in December of 2007. The full details will be released on May 10.
