Drugs at Cheese?

I cannot imagine this being true.

From The Daily Sentinel

VAIL — A joint drug enforcement operation at two recent String Cheese Incident concerts in Vail resulted in the arrests of 10 people on felony-level drug charge. Another 10 people were cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession, authorities said Friday...
The Two Rivers Drug Enforcement Team organized the operation for the band’s concerts Monday and Tuesday. String Cheese Incident performed at Vail’s Winter Carnival event as part of the band’s farewell tour...Every past show by the band in Vail included a variety of schedule I and schedule II illegal drugs, along with marijuana or cannabis drugs associated with those events, TRIDENT said in a news release...
Garfield County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis said large concerts and similar events are “the kinds of things that open our eyes to this.” County Sheriff Lou Vallario chairs TRIDENT.
“I wouldn’t say we wanted to target String Cheese Incident necessarily,” McGinnis said.
Along with TRIDENT, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Western Slope Joint Drug Task Force and Vail Police Department were part of the undercover operation “in attempts to combat the extensive drug use,” the news release said. “The operation could only be deemed as highly successful,” the news release said.
Of the 10 people arrested on felony drug charges, five were arrested for allegedly selling drugs to undercover officers, and five were arrested for the alleged possession of felony-level drugs. Vail officers cited 10 people for possession of marijuana.
Among the charges were possession and sale of LSD, possession of hashish, possession of cocaine and the sale of marijuana.

Last night Page McConnell performed at NYC's Gramercy Theatre, kicking off his spring tour in support of his self-titled album due out in stores April 17. Fans were treated to the entirety of Page's new album in addition to an encore that included a solo version of Phish's Strange Design

From Jambands.com

"Last night Page McConnell played his first proper solo club gig at New York’s Gramercy Theatre. In addition to the keyboardist, McConnell’s band includes Spam Allstars guitarist Adam Zimmon, keyboardist/guitarist Jared Slomoff, bassist Rob O'Dea, and drummer Gabe Jarrett. The quintet opened its show with “Back In the Basement” and ran through a number of tracks off Page McConnell, including “Runaway Bride,” “Maid Marion,” “Heavy Rotation,” “The Complex Wind,” “Rules I Don't Know,” “Close to Home,” and “Beauty of a Broken Heart.” For his encore McConnell offered a solo version of Phish’s “Strange Design” and a full band take on “Everyone But Me.” By the end of the evening McConnell had performed his new album in its entirety."

SCI Farewell Tour

Details have been vague so far but it seems as if there will be an official announcement any minute now. Stay tuned for updates.

From Relix.com

"Shortly after completing its Winter Carnival tour, String Cheese Incident has confirmed the first leg of its farewell tour. The five-year outing, Cheese Freezes Over: The Farewell Incidents Part 1, will kick off at Bonnaroo this June and hit most major markets across the continental US, western Europe, Japan and Australia. In a recent site interview, Bill Nershi also hints that a reunion may be around the corner. “Like a map at the top of a mountain, sometimes you have to look outside your given boundaries to find terrain which is truly challenging… all I have to say is that we have some very special trails planned for our 20th anniversary in six years.” The group’s entire farewell tour will be made available through livecheese.com."
